A remarkable hand-blown alexandrite glass vase by Cenedese, one of Murano’s most esteemed glass studios.

This exquisite piece is clearly etched “Cenedese” to the base — a hand-engraved cursive signature typical of the mid-century period (circa 1965–1975). The vase exhibits the mesmerising colour-changing properties of true alexandrite glass, shifting from soft lilac-pink in daylight to a bluish-violet hue under UV or fluorescent light — a result of neodymium oxide in the glass formula.

Its form is both modernist and serene: a rounded lower body supporting a gently flared upper section with a finely polished rim and base. The craftsmanship and clarity are exceptional.

This example is in museum-quality condition, with no wear, chips, scratches or restoration — likely stored since its original creation and never previously on the open market.

💡 Collector’s Notes

Alexandrite (neodymium) glass represents one of Murano’s most technically sophisticated achievements — prized for its ability to transform colour under varying light sources. Signed examples from Cenedese’s 1960s–70s period, when Antonio da Ros was art director, are particularly desirable for their purity of form and modern aesthetic.
