This beautiful pale green pressed glass bowl is more than just decorative — it’s a small piece of mid-century glassmaking history. Produced in Britain around the 1940s–50s, it reflects a time when makers like Sowerby and Bagley often reused and refined glass batches, ensuring nothing went to waste. The result is a distinctive soft green hue and an occasional faint glow under UV light — caused by trace amounts of uranium oxide, once added to achieve clarity and depth. Safe, subtle, and utterly characteristic of its era, this glow hints at the creative chemistry of post-war glass design.
The surface is richly textured with raised leaves, flowers, and fruit, catching and scattering light beautifully. Measuring approximately 20 cm in diameter, it’s ideal as a serving or display bowl. The glass is in excellent vintage condition, with crisp moulding and no chips or cracks — a wonderfully preserved example of British craftsmanship that bridges practicality and artistry.
