A superb hand-blown Scandinavian art glass vase, attributed to Åseda Glasbruk, Sweden, and dating from the mid-1960s to early 1970s.
This elegant trumpet-form vase is made using the sommerso technique — a clear outer casing over a white inner layer — producing beautiful optical depth throughout. The clear base is crystal bright with a fully fire-polished, smooth pontil.
A remarkable feature is the subtle optic “hobnail” pattern within the white base layer, created by blowing the inner gather into a fine mould before encasing in clear glass. This technique gives a soft, dimpled texture that anchors the meticulously controlled bubbles (bullicante), which rise evenly through the body and elongate gracefully up the neck.
Combining exceptional craftsmanship with timeless Scandinavian design, this piece displays the light, clarity and precision that define Åseda’s work under Bo Borgström.
