Viking art glass "Test Tube" Epic bud vase...1970s

From American art glass studios "Viking Glass" come this terrific piece of Mid Century Modern design in form of this hand-blown "test tube" or "trumpet" vase in the most attractive shade of deep ruby red. This is from the successful and popular "Epic" line.

This particular design was only produced from 1972 till 1976, a short run of less than 4 years, making this shape very difficult to find indeed.

Viking Glass grew out of it predecessor New Martinsville Glass which had been founded in 1901 by George Matheny and Mark Johnson. In 1944 the company was restructured and renamed Viking Glass and quickly became known for its distinct Mid Century Modern designs. They finally closed their doors for good in 1984
