Danish Mid-Century Modern Crystal Art Glass
This exquisite hand-blown crystal vase was designed by Per Lütken (1916–1998) for Holmegaard Glasværk, Denmark, and is etched to the base “Holmegaard 1961 PL.”
It belongs to the Arktis line — sometimes catalogued under the Ice Blue or Cylindra ranges — introduced in the early 1960s and celebrated for its serene, minimalist Scandinavian form and exceptional optical clarity.
Crafted from thick, pale arctic-blue crystal, the vase embodies Lütken’s masterful control of weight and proportion. The heavy, clear base grounds the form while the softly tapering body captures light with extraordinary depth and luminosity. Every detail, from the precision-ground rim to the fluid transition of colour, reflects Holmegaard’s renowned craftsmanship.

Collector Notes
Pieces from Per Lütken’s Arktis series mark a pivotal moment in Danish modern design, bridging the fluid organic forms of the 1950s Selandia collection with the architectural minimalism that defined Scandinavian glass of the 1960s. Each example was mouth-blown and hand-finished at Holmegaard’s workshop, making signed and dated pieces like this increasingly rare and highly collectible.
