This is quite remarkable...

This style of vase is known as a fazzoletto or handkerchief vase due to its soft, draped and ruffled rim and in modern times started being produced on the island of Murano in the late 1940s.

This is a truly wonderful magnum opus. This glorious & majestic vase is a "tour de force" to the skills and artistry of the master who begot this creation.

The white glass cane work on the outside is known as filigrana and involves laying molten glass rods onto Molton glass...

The subtle internal pattern of white waves is created by combining techniques of sommerso and casing with manipulation, where the white molten glass can be shaped, inflated and stretched over the molten red glass...

Another sign of the exceptional quality here is that the pedestal base has been hand-blown separately and then applied. It features a deeply recessed and highly polished pontil mark. It displays both a number of "seed bubbles" and a very light greenish tint. These are both indicators of it early production, when techniques were less refined.  The tint is caused by iron impurities in the sand and this is not seen in later pieces.

The vase stands stable, firm and upright, yet close examination shows the pedestal is very slightly off centre, another example of sublime mastery.

This stupendous example of glass work very strongly resembles an early pieces from Murano but is unmarked so we are selling as attributed rather than confirmed.

It is substantial, standing 27 cms tall and 20 cms wide. It weighs a little over 4 Lbs (1.8 kg)

Overall a unique, early piece of Venetian art glass, in pristine condition... you'll never find another like it.
